TV apps and built-in tuner

Currently most of the TVs are described as “smart” and can run streaming apps. We should not forget about the tuners built-in TVs, as it was the most traditional way to watch broadcasted content.

In the most minimalistic setup, you do not need to connect anything to start watching your favourite movies and TV shows.

Even though the “smart TVs” are becoming smarter, it will be hardly possible to catchup with the newest devices that get quite frequent hardware updates and most people won’t change their TVs too often.

Getting an external box might give your setup a significant boost in performance and features. Currently (2023) there are two main systems worth considering:

  • tvOS (can be found in newest release of Apple TV 4K gen 3 2022)
  • AndroidTV (NVIDIA Shield TV updated in 2019 is still believed as the best AndroidTV box)

Both boxes offer a wide variaty of streaming apps and can also work as a tiny gaming boxes too.

However, if you are a gamer, you most likely prefer gaming consoles.
